Frankfurt: Haeredes Andreas Wechel, 1584. 4to (21.6 x 16.5 cm). Conteporary pigskin over wooden boards dated 1554. Collation:[2] 3-204, 108, 60, 132, 31, 78, [2-blank], 111, 1pp. Last page with printer's imprint device. The binding has fine tooling in the center of front cover with medallion containing the portrait of Ludwig III, Duke of Württemberg with legend "Von Gottes Gnaden Ludwig II Hetzog au Wir[rtenberg]" on lower portion of the coat of arms of the Duke. The medallions, which surround the large central panel of interlaced strap work, leaves and schools, are portraits of Luther, Melanchthon, Erasmus and Hus surrounded by several fillets. The internal condition is very good with only minor spotting. The text is in Greek. The editor, Friedrich Sylburg, published Aristotle's Opera in Greek in 11 separate parts from 1584 to 1587. This is the third volume of the Opera, Physica. Sylburg was one of the most important Greek scholars of the 16th century. Provenance: "Ex Libris Josephi Loeheri Snadelphingensis anno 1586. calend. Junij" ink inscription on verso of front free end paper. Very good example of period vellum blind stamp binding and important Aristotle text and thought in his Physica.
