This work contains extensive presentation of floral structure of diverse genera by Batsch who was professor of botany in Jena and later professor of medicine and philosophy(1761-1802) . From his research on fungi and higher plants he was able to develop a general nature system for plant classification that included arrangement of domestic plants into 78 families and 9 classes. The copper plates, drawn by Batsch and engraved by Capieux, illustrate fine detail and have a brilliance of color and good layout for the multiple images on each plate. Text pages have slight browning from age ow very clean and bright copy.
