This is the first edition with notes from Hunter. Although there are two books presented, there is no change in pagation or presence of separate title page, as issued. The dedication is to Evelyn's great-great-grandson, Sir Frederick Evelyn of Wotton. The portrait of Evelyn was drawn and engraved by Francesco Bartolozi and the illustrations done by John Miller, except for the Greendale Oak engraved by A. Rooker and Thomas Vivares. (Raphael, Oak Spring Sylva) Hunter was a physician and also a founder of the Agricultural Society of York. (Johnston, Cleveland Herbal). Provenance: Subscriber Rev. John Marsden's copy with ink signature on title page and name written in ink on subscriber's receipt slip signed by Hunter. The receipt is inserted in front of the Subcribers page. Rev. Marsden's name appears in the subscribers list in the "M" section. There is little known about Rev. Marsden except that he came from Burntwook Nook and was vicar of Folkirk.
