This work is the result of studies done by Thomas Martin which he gave to Rev. Relhan who published them along with three supplements. The other supplements that were published in 1788 and 1793. Relhan was assisted by James Dickson, a gardener and botanist as well as author on cryptogamous plants. The plates were done by James Sowerby after drawings by James Bolton. (Nissen, 1619; Henrey, 1256,1257).
