Collation: Vol. I- 17, 651 pp. + 2 folding charts and 41 copper engraved plates; Vol. II- .  2-527 pp. + 22 copper engraved plates. Bindings have raised bands and floral decorated panels in gilt. Titles and subject of each volume identified in separate panels with red or maroon leather labels and gilt lettering, Ovipares, Serpens. The subject labels have some loss. Hinges are solid but there is some break in Volume I. There is age wear to ends of spines and corners. Covers have triple gilt line borders. The text has minor foxing, but charts have browned paper and slightly more foxing. There are two plates with some paper adhering from facing page from previous drop of moisture on plate. Very Good. These two volumes are part of a larger "Oeuvres" of La Cépède. The plates were from drawings by De Seve. This is a scarce 4to two volume set by an associate of Buffon and represents "one of the earliest treatises on natural history by" La Cépède. (Wood, p. 424 for 8vo set).
