This is a scarce first issue of this significant work on artificial animal and plant selection as well as Darwin's hypothesis of pangenesis (Freeman). As noted also by Freeman, "This (book) represents the only section of Darwin's big book on the origin of species which was printed in his lifetime and corresponds to its first two intended chapters." (Freeman - Darwin, 877; Casey Wood,p.310; Pritzel, 2060.)
