Mairan had wide interest in physical phenomena for which he tried to find phyical mechanisms (DSB). This present work he studied the appearance of auroa boreali in and around Paris. The text is complemented with 15 stunning copper engravings don by Ph. Simonneau. It is rare to find inscribed copies of this work which usually are to noted French scientists. (see Honeymann, 2112). Provenance: Inscribed to Monsieur Langlois, Royal Engineer and the Royal Academy of Science for instruments of mathematics. This is a very good copy of Mairan's studies on aurore boreal around Paris to which he provided detail illustrations with the aid of Phillipe Simonneau. (DSB 9, p.33; Honeyman 2112; Poggendorff II, p.17-18).
