Newton's Interpolation Formulas

London C & E Layton 1927 Ex Libris 8vo (22.3 x 14.2 cm) . Ex Libris. Original buckram binding with author and title in gilt on cover and in white ink on spine. Collation: [4] 95 p. with 5 half-tone reproductions of Newton's manuscripts, all folded. There is small 5 cm. section of rear hinge that has been repaired near top of spine. The folding plates are facsimile pages of a Latin, mathematical manuscript by Newton. These remained unpublished at Trinity College, Cambridge until 1918-1919 when Fraser transcribed and translated the original Latin MS. Very Good Original Cloth (Item ID: 0000200)


The translation of the mathematical manuscript pages was first published in The Journal of the Institue of Acuaries vol 51: 77-106 (Oct. 1918), 211-232 (April, 1919); Vol. 58: 53-95 (March, 1927). The present work is the second published by Fraser and contains all the manuscript pages. It was issued as a "Presentation copy to members Attending the Eighth Intenational Congress of Actuaries, London, June 1927." (Babson, 212) . An earlier publication in 1919 only contained the first two articles. Ex Library copy from Whigan Free Public Library with tipped in slip stating that this copy was donated by author to library. (Babson, 212).
