Uncut and unopened. The first volume has original printed wrappers with back cover containing advertisement. Second volume in plan green wrappers. This second edition has been augmented from the first published in 1846. This is a very scarce copy in original wrappers. There is a 21 page history of astronomy and celestial mechanics in the Introduction. G de Pontécoulant was a French astronomer with a keen interest in celestial mechanics of which this is his major work and last edtion published. His research resulted in a detail analysis of craters on the moon. In fact, there are a number of lunar craters, which bear his name.
