This is a reprint of v. 7 of Traite de l'électricité et du magnétisme (Paris, 1834-40) preceded by a general introduction. Becquerel was most noted for his work "on the voltaic cell … performed elegant small-scale experiments on the synthesis of mineral substances… Becquerel remarked that chemical synthesis had lagged behind analysis and hoped that through his techniques many naturally occurring crystals would be shyntesized and the balance redressed…for this work he received the Copley Medal."(DSB 1, p. 557) The Traité (7 volumes) was his most important work.
