This is only copy offered which has the half title pages and additional preliminaries in both volumes and adds at end of volume II. In 1796 Laplace published Eposition du système du monde, a semipopular treatmen of his work in celestial mechanics and a model of Frnch prose. The book includes his "nebular hypothesis," attributing the origin of the solar system to cooling and contraction of a gaseous nebula. (Encycl. Brit.)
