Blondel was a noted French architect who was a well known teacher who professed a more open view to architecture even though he personally was quite con-servative. He started his own school to which almost all students of architecture attended. The plates in this work illustrate the fine details of Blondel's work. He was also a fine engraver and served as architect to King Louis XV.
